TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) — Monday, August 24th: Below are the top stories WTXL ABC 27 is following around the Big Bend, South Georgia, nationally, and your forecast.
1) Tallahassee City Commission Seat 3 heads to manual recount after 13-vote margin. Tom Derzypolski leads Talethia Edwards by 13 votes after a machine recount. A manual recount will now determine who advances to the November runoff.
2) New TaxWatch tool maps Amendment 3’s impact county by county. Florida voters now have another way to crunch the numbers on Amendment 3, though the math still comes with plenty of political variables.
3) As US-Canada trade talks collapse, consumers brace for higher costs. The U.S. imposed 50% tariffs on $20 billion in Canadian goods, prompting immediate retaliation from Canada and raising concerns about higher consumer prices.
4) Monday forecast. Thunderstorms will start to pop up around 1 p.m. this afternoon and can become severe around 5 p.m. We are in a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather. Some of our Florida counties are also under a Heat Advisory. Meteorologist Ryan Gold has the details below.
