MIDWAY, Fl. (WTXL) -- Hurricane Matthew is barreling toward western parts of Haiti. The system is a powerful Category 4 hurricane. As of Monday evening, the forecast track has taken a noticeable turn west, putting more of the Floridian Peninsula in the possible line of sight from this major hurricane. For the local area, impacts are expected to be isolated and minimal, with breezy conditions and scattered storms on Friday.
As of the 5am advisory, maximum winds are sustained at 145 mph. It is moving to the north at 9 mph. Parts of Haiti, eastern Cuba, and the Bahamas are under HURRICANE WARNINGS, and parts of southeast Florida may see advisories issued soon.
In addition to Matthew, a disturbance to the northeast of the Caribbean continues to organize and it has a 70% chance of developing into a tropical depression in the next two days. It is no threat to land.
The progression of Matthew will be important to the local forecast in the coming days. Any east or west shift can alter thoughts on temperatures and potential rain or wind impacts.
