MIDWAY, Fl. (WTXL) -- There are FOUR areas of focus for this morning's Tropics check, including the second hurricane of the Atlantic hurricane season.
We'll start off with Hurricane Gert, with the 11:00am advisory having Gert's maximum sustained winds at 75 mph.
The category 1 hurricane is moving to the NNE at 10 mph. It is forecast to evade the U.S. and Bermuda, staying over water as it accelerates to the northern Atlantic and transitions into a non-tropical low pressure system.
In addition to Gert, there are THREE areas of disturbed weather just west of Africa that each have a chance of organizing into a tropical depression.
The 5-day possibilities for the three (from west to east) are 40%, 20%, and 20%. These all will be watched closely as the travel further away from Africa and closer to the Caribbean.
