MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) -- Chris, off the coast of the Carolinas, is likely to reach hurricane strength today, but it is expected to remain offshore and eventually move to the northeast in the next couple of days.

The remnants of the former Hurricane Beryl are approaching the southeastern Bahamas in the next 24 hours as a wave of moisture. The water temperatures beneath the system, and generally lighter upper-level winds, may allow some re-organization of the disturbance.  It, too, is forecast to remain a good distance from the U.S. Atlantic coastline and eventually move to the northeast.

Aside from these, the remainder of the tropical Atlantic basin is quiet with no impending cyclones expected for a few days.
