MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) -- Gonzalo is no longer tropical. The cold waters of the northern Atlantic as well as the potent wind shear have disrupted the circulation enough to cause the system to lose its tropical characteristics. Still though, the winds with the system are formidable, sustained at 80 mph (low end category 1 strength). The system will die off in the northern Atlantic as a post-tropical low.
Elsewhere in the Atlantic, two new areas of thunderstorms have caught attention. The first is a tropical disturbance in the southwest Gulf of Mexico that will move to the northeast this week and bring some showers/thunderstorm activity to the Floridian peninsula. The main rain impacts should stay well to our south and east, though an isolated shower or two can't be ruled out.
Also, a subtropical low off in the far-eastern Atlantic is showing signs of development. Both systems have a 30% chance of organizing into a depression within the next 5 days.
