MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) -- Widespread shower and thunderstorm activity across the region Sunday was all due to a cold front stalled just to the north of the area. The cold front has helped to provide ample instability in the air, as well as continuing to draw winds in from the southwest, keeping surface moisture high. This is what is allowing these storms to produce heavy downpours. Combining the frequent to excessive lightning, strong to severe winds, and those downpours, and you have a pretty messy Sunday.
Weather should improve overall as the stalled out frontal boundary begins to weaken and sunshine and warmth fill in as high pressure takes hold once again. Overnight lows into Monday morning will range in the lower 70s with a slight chance for a late night/ early morning shower. Rain coverage will increase in the afternoon, but not as high as Sunday, only around 40%. Daytime highs will rebound to near or slightly above 90 degrees.
As high pressure begins to once again strengthen its hold, the main source of rain will be from the sea breeze and coverage all week will range in the 30-40% range. While high pressure will help heat the land back up to the mid 90s by late next week, it doesn't look likely that another intense heat wave will push through, as the high wont be as intense as weeks prior.
