TALLAHASSEE (WTXL) - Conditions quickly deteriorating throughout your Monday morning as a vigorous cold front moves through the area. Tornadoes have already touched down in Calhoun, Jackson, and Gadsden counties causing destruction at the Calhoun State Prison near Blountstown.
Because of this, a tornado watch is in effect til 2pm for the entire area meaning more tornadoes and high winds are possible. Temps tumble as the front passes into the low 60s this afternoon and overnight, we're talking about a huge plunge with numbers getting into the low and mid 30s. Tuesday, we're much quieter and colder with highs barely scraping 50°, though we'll see plenty of sunshine. Hard freeze watches are in effect for the entire region Wednesday morning for temps to plummet to record breaking levels--the coldest we've seen all year in the low 20s and upper teens. Make sure to check in on the 4P's: people, pets, plants, and yes even wrap up the pipes and let them leak overnight so they don't freeze or burst. Under full sunshine, highs will quickly bump back into the mid 50s. Back into the 20s for Thursday morning. High pressure overhead will allow temps to quickly warm with ample sunshine into the low 60s . For the end of your work week, we're back to near 70° for a high with a mild weekend ahead in the low to mid 70s as another front advances along the Gulf coast.
