MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) -- From the Storm Team Weather Center ...
Active thunderstorms have departed, and the cloudiness will soon break, as well. Bitter-cold air is surging in on a faster northwest wind flow following today's cold front, and the region is likely headed toward the coldest temperatures since early January as the Arctic air plunges into the Gulf. Breezy conditions will make tonight's lows in the low and mid 30s feel more like the 20s as folks leave for work and school. Despite abundant sunshine, the cold air mass will prevent highs from breaking into the 50s in most of south Georgia, and only barely in the low 50s for the southeastern Big Bend. A hard freeze is increasingly likely Wednesday morning with lows ranging from near 20° in outlying rural inland areas to near 30° at the coast. Temperatures won't return to average until the weekend.
A Freeze Warning is in effect Tuesday morning for many south Georgia counties, and a few western interior Big Bend counties, for the potential for temperatures to reach 29° to 32° for up to three hours. A Hard Freeze Watch is in place for most of the viewing area Wednesday morning for possible temperatures at 26° or less for at least two hours. This may be upgraded to a Hard Freeze Warning tomorrow.
