TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- Despite the flipping of the calendar and the approaching spring break period, a characteristic of winter will remind the region that the cool season hasn't ended yet.
High pressure over the Deep South will cause a clearing trend for most of the area late Friday night through Saturday morning. The colder air mass along with the high pressure will force temperatures more than 10 degrees below average. With lighter winds, patchy frost is possible away from the coast and primarily in open, rural areas.
A Frost Advisory will be in effect from 5:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. Saturday for most south Georgia counties. Tender vegetation and plant life should be brought indoors or otherwise shielded from the falling temperatures and the possible development of frost.
Lingering clouds in portions of north Florida should inhibit any significant frost concerns, especially in the Suwannee River basin.
Frost advisories and light freeze warnings can be issued now that we are in meteorological spring. Plants that may be in a blooming phase during periodic warmer spells can often be harmed by late-season cold snaps and freeze events. Light freeze warning issuances are suspended in the winter following the first widespread freeze occurrence.
