MIDWAY, Fl. (WTXL) -- Two strong tropical waves have favorable odds to develop into tropical depressions by early next week.
Starting off in the open Atlantic, a strong wave to the southwest of the Cape Verde Islands continues to produce thunderstorm activity and show healthy signs of development. Within the next two days, it has a 40% chance of becoming a depression. Within the next five days, it has an 80% chance to develop. This disturbance will continue to track west in the open Atlantic, approaching the Lesser Antilles.
Another disturbance in the eastern Caribbean (east of the Lesser Antilles) has a decent chance to develop into a tropical depression. In two days, the probability of development is 20% and in five days, the chance is at 50%. This will continue to track west-northwest toward the Yucatán Peninsula.
At this point in time, neither disturbance is a threat to the U.S.
