Looking at the tropics this morning, tropical storm Karen seems to have weakened a bit. Drier air near the center of circulation has caused the storm to become more disorganized and to slow down. There is still a chance it could regain strength on Saturday evening, but most models showing it won’t make it to hurricane status. There is still a hurricane watch in effect from Great Isle, LA to just west of Destin, FL. A tropical storm watch remains in effect for Destin, FL to Indian Pass, FL. Karen is moving NNW at about 10mph, a trough coming from the West will help shift Karen’s track more eastward, which will in turn bring us heavy rain showers Saturday night into Sunday morning. We could also see a few thunderstorms and some gusty winds.
