TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- The difference between minor and major flooding will change in Pinetta, a Madison County community along the Withlacoochee River.
The Tallahassee branch of the National Weather Service announced Monday adjustments to the flood thresholds. When the river levels reaches 60 feet at the measurement site along County Road 150, flood "Action Stage" is achieved. A further rise to 74 feet will trigger the Minor Flood Stage category.
Moderate Flood Stage will occur in Pinetta when the Withlacoochee reaches 80 1/2 feet, and Major Flood Stage is met at 84 feet.
Prior to this adjustment, minor flood stage at the measurement site near Pinetta was 79 feet, with a major flood height of 85 feet.
The changes to the various levels of flood stage were made in response to recent flooding occurrences at that point in 2009 and 2013, and observing local impacts the floodings caused.
The revisions were made after collaboration with nearby emergency management officials, using measurement data from the U.S. Geological Survey, and take effect Feb. 24.
