Morley, 28, escaped from the Northwest Correctional Complex near Tiptonville on Sunday, Oct. 25. Officials said that they realized he was unaccounted for at around 11:30 p.m.

Authorities later found a stolen truck believed to have been used in his getaway in southern Illinois.

Along with first-degree murder, Morley was also convicted of aggravated burglary, tampering with evidence, vandalism and evading arrest.

His escape raised questions about how quickly state officials notified law enforcement and the public.

A NewsChannel 5 investigation found that the Tennessee Department of Correction waited more than seven hours to alert the public and several hours to notify local law enforcement after discovering that Morley was missing.

Prison officials initially offered a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to Morley's arrest.
