Florida Highway Patrol: Cairo man dies in traffic incident in Taylor County

PERRY, Fla. (WTXL) — UPDATE 6:13 p.m.: The Florida Highway Patrol released a report Monday evening about an accident that occurred in Taylor County.

According to the report, FHP troopers are working a fatal traffic crash on U.S. Highway 19 just north of Bill Howell Road involving a box truck and a log truck.

The report notes the box truck that was driven by 68-year-old man of Cairo, Georgia was traveling north on U.S. 19. The log truck was traveling north on U.S. 19 in front of the box truck.

The log truck turned onto Bill Howell Road and moments later, the box truck collided with the trailer of the log truck.

The Taylor County Sheriff's Office, Taylor County Fire Rescue and Century Emergency Medical Services assisted the Florida Highway Patrol at the scene.

The FHP report confirmed the operator of the box truck was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel.

The operator of the log truck reportedly did not sustain any injuries.

The Florida Highway Patrol responded to an incident Monday afternoon.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol’s Live Traffic Crash and Roads Conditions Report, at 1:18 p.m. troopers were dispatched to the area of U.S. 19 and Bill Howell Road for an incident.

FHP designated the accident type as a fatality and there is a roadblock in the area of the incident.
