JIHLAVA, Czech Republic (NOVA TV/CNN) – Zoo animals in the Czech Republic are being cooled down with hoses due to a European heat wave.
Animals at the Jihlava Zoo, like the pygmy hippo and the birds of prey, receive showers daily.
“The raptors and owls like it because they cool down, and also they clean their feathers," zookeeper Eda Skoloud said.
Zookeepers send animals that can’t get a shower inside. The hot weather is worst for animals from the north.
The hot weather is even a problem for Vladimir Sasek, a breeder from the Jihlava region. He has had to adjust the field for his stock.
"We have two rules here: the animals must have sufficient water supply and a shady place to hide,” Sasek said.
One piglet called Zuzanka received a little umbrella to help with the heat.
