(CNN) - The United States has the worst overall child mortality rate overall when compared to 19 other wealthy nations, according to a study by the journal Health Affairs.
The study examines child mortality rates between 1961 and 2010 in the U.S. and comparable nations in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. It's a group of 35 countries founded to improve economic development and social well-being around the world.
Overall, Sweden had the lowest child mortality rate among all the countries.
The study found that infant deaths, automobile accidents and firearm assaults were the key factors in America's low ranking. Researchers recommend policies to reduce those high numbers.
