ATLANTA (WGCL/CNN) – An Uber Eats driver accused of killing a customer appeared in court Tuesday.
Suspect Robert Bivines is charged with felony murder and aggravated assault and has been denied bond.
Witnesses told police 30-year-old Ryan Thornton approached Bivines’ vehicle outside an Atlanta condo building Saturday night to pick up his food delivery.
The two had an altercation that ended with Thornton being shot several times.
The driver’s lawyer said his client acted in self-defense after Thornton threatened him over the delivery being late.
Bivines is set to appear in court again on March 6, where he hopes a judge will set a bond.
Uber Eats prohibits drivers from carrying firearms in their vehicle while using the app.
The company said in a statement that their “hearts go out to the families of those involved.”
