CHESTERFIELD, MO (KTVI/CNN) - A single-engine plane crashed into a gas station parking lot in Chesterfield, MO, on Wednesday afternoon, killing the pilot. The plane also damaged a gas pump and a vehicle, but there were no other injuries.
The pilot had received clearance to land at the nearby Spirit of St. Louis Airport. An airport spokesman said the pilot then reported the plane was losing power and said, "I don't know if I'm going to make it."
The plane crashed and burst into flames. The pilot was pronounced dead at the scene. A rescue of the the pilot was attempted, but the flames were too intense, KTVI reported.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
