KABUL, AFGHANISTAN (RADIO FREE EUROPE/CNN) - Days after a deadly bombing, several protesters were killed as a demonstration calling for better security in Afghanistan's capital turned violent.
The demonstrators gathered on June 2 to demand the resignations of President Ashraf Ghani's and chief executive Abdullah Abdullah.
A massive truck bomb killed at least 90 people in Kabul on May 31.
Protesters blamed the leaders for not protecting citizens from militant groups such as the Taliban and Islamic State. Some protesters rushed police who blocked a road leading to the presidential palace.
Security forces fired into the air and used a water cannon to disperse the crowd. Hospital, government, and security sources said some of the protesters died and a number of police were wounded.
No group claimed responsibility for the May 31 attack, the deadliest bombing in the capital since a U.S.-led invasion drove the Taliban from power in 2001.
Several thousand American troops serve in Afghanistan trying to help national troops fend off Taliban and ISIS militants.
