DURHAM, NC (WNCN/CNN) - Protesters toppled a confederate statue outside a government building in Durham, NC, Monday evening.
A woman climbed a ladder and attached a rope around it.
Protesters then pulled on the rope until the monument fell to the ground.
They celebrated its fall, some spitting on and kicking the broken statue.

An organizer said the protest was in reaction to the events in Charlottesville this past weekend, and said similar confederate statues across the country need to be removed.
