PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA (KYW/CNN) - Pennsylvania State Police say the suspect who shot a trooper during a routine traffic stop is now in custody.
The suspect drove himself to the hospital after suffering gunshot wounds. The corporal is at another hospital, and also is being treated for multiple gunshot wounds.
The officer and another trooper were administering a field sobriety test on the suspect, and tried to arrest him. The suspect resisted, freed himself and got a gun from his vehicle, and shot the officer, KYW reported.
The report added that the officer was out of surgery but in critical condition. The suspect also underwent surgery.
Officials say the trooper was outside of his vehicle when the two exchanged fire.
