Nanorobots destroy cancerous tumors

(RNN) – Doctors could soon use tiny robots to fight cancer.

Researchers have successfully deployed nanorobots to attack and destroy human breast cancer tumors planted in mice, as detailed in an article published in Nature Biotechnology.

The nanobots worked by targeting the cells of blood vessels feeding the tumors. After locating the cells, the bots injected them with a drug that caused clots in the vessels.

The clots cut off the blood supply to the tumors, making them rot away and disappear.

The method also has proven safe in Bama miniature pigs, a finding that researchers said could open the way to treating larger animals, including humans.
