CHICAGO (WLS/CNN) - A grandfather was walking home from the store on Thursday and was killed by crossfire in a drive-by shooting, police say.
Gene Gordon, 78, died after being shot in the West Englewood neighborhood in the city’s South Side.
A Sedan drove by and fired several shots at a group of people gathered near Gordon, police said. He died at Advocate Christ Medical Center just before 6 p.m. after taking a bullet in the head. He is survived by his wife, four children and grandchildren, WLS said in a report.
Neighbors described the 50-year resident of the neighborhood as a wonderful man. Community activist Andrew Holmes said there is a $2,000 reward for information in the fatal shooting.
There have been no arrests.
