Family finds stranger in mom's grave

HITCHCOCK, TX (KPRC/CNN) - A family is upset after they say a stranger was buried in their mother's grave.

Marguerite Lamb wanted to be buried next to her husband, but when they went to dig her grave last week, they discovered, surprisingly, it was already occupied.

"He's got somebody else buried in here, sir," Michael Lamb said.

He recorded a cell phone video on the day his mom, Marguerite Lamb, was supposed to be buried.

The family purchased plots at Mainland Memorial Cemetery more than 30 years ago.

"Right now, I'm ticked. My family's ticked about what happened here and what has occurred here," Michael Lamb said.

"She lived a good, long life, and she deserved to be have a nice burial," said Connie Carter, Marguerite Lamb's daughter.

It's unclear who was buried in Marguerite Lamb's plot, but that casket has since been exhumed.

The owner of Mainland Memorial Cemetery said he will try to determine who is inside, but he won't say how.

He also said the cemetery is 100 years old, and records weren't as accurate back then.

"He can't use that as a cop out," Carter said. "How do you sell a plot if you don't who's where?"

"That's bad business on his part," Michael Lamb said.
