LAS VEGAS (KLAS/CNN) - The first driverless shuttle bus launched Wednesday, then crashed two hours later.
The private company that operates the shuttle in downtown Las Vegas said the vehicle stopped exactly as it was supposed to when a truck in front of it got too close.
The delivery truck's driver didn't see the shuttle and backed into it.
Eight passengers were aboard when it happened. Nobody was hurt in the accident.
"The truck kept going and it kept turning, and you can see the angle that it's at, it couldn't see us," passenger Jenny Wong said.
Police gave the truck driver a citation.
The oval-shaped shuttle can transport up to 12 passengers and has an attendant and computer monitor, but no steering wheel and no brake pedals.
It uses GPS, electronic curb sensors and other technology to make its way.
