(RNN) -  American workers have very different vacation habits from other countries, according to a new survey by digital media company Captivate.

While Americans have a reputation for being workaholics, the survey results suggest this may not be entirely true: Only 49 percent of women and 36 percent of men say that they would completely shut down for a vacation.

In addition, 44 percent of Americans going on vacation said they don't plan to do any work, while 23 percent said they would likely work for 30 minutes a day.

Finally, 47 percent of vacation-goers reported that they would look, but not respond, to e-mails.

Canadians, however, are much better at enjoying their vacations - 68 percent said they wouldn't do any work while on vacation.

The U.S. and Canada aren’t all different, though.

Americans (66 percent) and Canadians (63 percent) both have plans for a "relaxing" vacation. Further, executives from both countries said they will maintain normal routines while on vacation to a higher degree than their colleagues.

Other fun facts:

  • The most time Americans plan to take off during the summer is 6-10 days.
  • Baby Boomers are living the good life - 36 percent plan to take more than 10 days off this summer.
  • More than half of American respondents (55 percent) have plans to take time off in July.
  • For Canadians, the most popular time to take off is in August; although, female respondents favored July.

And another thing the U.S. and Canada have in common? They aren't France, whose government mandates 30 paid days of vacation each year.
