NORFOLK, Va. (WTXL) - Football season is right around the corner. September 1st is game number one for the Florida A&M Rattlers, and on Friday football season became a little more real as MEAC Media Days took center stage in Virgnia.

Media Day was a new experience for first year FAMU head coach Willie Simmons. The Rattlers were picked to finish fifth in the conference, but did receive a first place vote in that preseason poll.

Ten Rattlers found themselves on the preseason All-MEAC team, and that returning talent, plus a good recruiting class, has Simmons optimistic about this upcoming season.

"We feel like we inherited a team that was right on the brink of being a really good football team," he said Friday. "The amount of games they lost in the fourth quarter, they were really close to being a team that was easily an eight win team as opposed to a three win team. We feel like we have the talent here. WE feel like we've done a really good job of going out and recruiting top caliber student athletes to join the fold, and we're looking forward to seeing what they can do once we report."

FAMU opens fall camp August 2nd. Their first game is September 1st when they host Fort Valley State.
