VALDOSTA, Ga. - Valdosta State placed a league-best three players on the All-Gulf South Conference as voted on by the league coaches, in an announcement made by the GSC Office Wednesday.
Josh Sparks, James Anacreon and Patrick Diop were all voted to the second team squad after leading VSU to fourth-place finish in the league and a 17-9 overall record this season.
Sparks led the GSC in both rebounds, at 8.8 per game, and blocked shots, with 3.7 per outing, while also ranking among the league leaders in field goal percentage, fifth at 53.2 percent, offensive rebounds with 3.3 for second, and second in defensive rebounds with 5.5, to go along with 12.7 points a game.
Meanwhile, Anacreon finished the regular season sixth in the conference in points at 14.8 and third in rebounds with 8.3. He led the GSC in shooting percentage at 58.7 and ranked sixth in free throw percentage at 75.4 while standing second in blocked shots at 1.5, first in offensive rebounds at 3.9 and eighth in defensive rebounds at 4.4.
Diop, who averaged 13.8 points a game, was second in the league in assists at 4.1, eighth in free throw percentage at 73.3, first in steals at 2.7 and seventh in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.00.
The Blazers return to action Friday, March 8 at 6:30 p.m. when they open play in the Gulf South Conference Tournament against Delta State at the Pete Hanna Center in Birmingham, Ala.
