TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Florida State needs a new backup quarterback.

Rising junior Jacob Coker has signed to transfer to the University of Alabama, that according to Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban.

"We think a lot of Jake and we are excited to have him join our team," said Saban. "He is not only an outstanding football player, but he is also a fine young man who we feel will be a great fit with our program at Alabama."

Last August, Coker lost a battle for the starting quarterback job to Jameis Winston. After watching Winston go on to set multiple school and ACC records (and knowing Winston will be at FSU at least through next season), Coker decided to transfer to a different school.

The rising junior should be eligible to play at Alabama this fall without sitting out a season, as he is slated to earn his undergraduate degree this spring.

"I was very impressed with everything on my visit to Tuscaloosa," said Coker. "I feel very comfortable with the coaches and the players, and I'm looking forward to getting started at Alabama and competing.

"I also want to thank my coaches and teammates at Florida State. I had a great experience there and I'm excited to build on that at Alabama."
