TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - When it comes to pressure, Rickards High School senior Martin Williams thrives off it.
"I'm just going out and having fun with the teammates," he said. "It's not like I want to stay away from the pressure, I kind of like it."
There's no pressure on the diamond, and no pressure in the classroom - Martin's shaking off the stress with a 4.25 GPA in Rickards IB Program.
"He's a kid you don't have to tell what to do," said head baseball coach Brian Kelley. "He just does everything the right way. In the IB Program, seniors don't get to take PE and music, it's all six classes are high level."
"We have a lot of projects and papers and the IB exams that we have to study for, really just, I don't know, you just do it!" laughed Martin.
That just do it mentality carries over to the baseball field, where Martin leads by example just be getting things done.
"You don't get on to him ever, he's always on task, always working hard, always working extra," said coach Kelley. "Martin's always hard at it and just a pleasure to coach."
"With school, this is the kind of year, they're always telling us it's not over yet, you have to finish," said Martin. "Now with baseball, it's not over yet. You have to still finish."
Finishing strong, is exactly what Martin is trying to do.
"The team as a whole, and if we go out as District Champs or even State Champs, that'll be a mark that we can leave on Rickards," he said. "We can have our name on the back of the dugout like the other teams, which has been a goal since we've been here. Really, that Championship, that's what I want."
What he wants, with no pressure at all.
