TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Cheetah Delgado set a Florida State record with 15 assists, helping the Noles to a 72-55 win over Boston College Sunday at the Donald L. Tucker Center. The previous assist record at FSU was 14, set by Shirley Silsby in 1976, 38 years ago.
Delgado accomplished the feat on "Paint it Pink" day, as the Seminoles sported pink uniforms to raise awareness and money for breast cancer research. Delgado's mother passed away from breast cancer in 2009.
"I think of my mom for every game," Delgado said following today's win. "She really pushed me to be here and play basketball, but today was a special day and I dedicate it to her."
"I'm just so proud of the way the entire team locked in after a lot of disappointment," FSU head coach Sue Semrau said. "I thought that the young players all stepped up and played significant roles. I'm just really proud of them. We definitely needed this win."
Florida State senior Natasha Howard recorded her 10th 20-plus point performance of the season Sunday, pouring in a game-high 26 points while grabbing 11 rebounds. Howard holds the school record for 36 career double-doubles and sits fourth all-time in points scored (1,555) and third in rebounds (948).
The Noles travel to central New York to take on Syracuse Thursday, February 13th at 7:00 p.m. At the Carrier Dome.
