TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - It's Christmas break for athletes from high school to college, but for basketball players, there is no break from the hardwood. The time of year is stock full of good tournaments to check out, and the Lincoln High ladies, kick off one on Tuesday.
The Trojans, who are 5-4 as the first part of the season comes to a close, welcome in Leon, Chiles, Suwannee, Wakulla and West Port for the two day tournament.
West Port, from Ocala, has two girls committed to play basketball at the University of Florida, and Trojan head coach Rod Mack is excited to bring top notch talent to Tallahassee, especially during Christmas break, a time that's crucial to getting better.
"Christmas or holiday break is always tough because it's family time," he said Monday. "It's good to make sure we keep them in the gym, keep them focused, get up and down the floor a little bit, make some free throws, some jump shots, just keep that feel of basketball in their system while they're going through this period of family time."
Chiles and Wakulla kick off play on Tuesday at 4:00, while Leon and West Port play at 5:30. Lincoln and Suwannee close out the night at 7:00.
