MADISON, Fl. (WTXL) - December the 18th is the first day for high school football players to sign as it marks the beginning of the early signing period. On Tuesday at Madison County, Florida State bound Zane Herring and Chalon Howard, who's headed to Georgia Southern, celebrated with friends and family.

Howard, a safety, said he is excited about the opportunity to play college ball. He added it's been a lot of work to get here, and he can't wait for the next step.

"Thousands upon thousands of kids work like I do and luckily I was fortunate to have a scholarship to play at the next level," he said. "I've been wanting to do this since I was five years old. Growing up, seeing my cousin play and everybody else play. As a little league kid, I just wanted to make it in life. Football really got me there and I thank God for this opportunity."

Both Howard and Herring will enroll early at their respective Universities.
