TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - High school athletes in both South Georgia and North Florida may have played their final games of the season. GISA athletics in Georgia suspended sports through April 10th.GHSA athletics are allowing the decision to play up the individual school districts, while in Florida, athletics canceled through the end of the month.
That means several Big Bend teams may have played their final games tonight of the spring if athletics aren't brought back. At Chiles High, the Timberwolves fell Buchholz Friday night in lacrosse. It's bittersweet for these seniors, and the hardest part? Knowing what could have been.
"All the seniors were very aware that this could be the last game of the season," said senior Carson Hough. "It's heartbreaking that this is how it might go out but you're with your brothers and that's what counts. You like to hold on to that."
"It's really said. One of our teammates came up to us and said he loved all of us," added fellow senior Sam Hartmann. "He said we were all his brothers. I totally agree with all of that statement. We're all family here and we're going to stick together. We have 19 seniors. We're all graduating together. It's a big impact on all of us."
Again, as of right now, athletics are just postponed across South Georgia and North Florida. They could still be brought back.
