MONTICELLO, Fla. (WTXL) - To say the Jefferson County Tigers hold a football dynasty would be accurate. The Tigers have six State Championships to their name, that's tied for third all time statewide, and this season, Jefferson looks to get back to their winning ways.
The Tigers won their last State title in 2011, but since then, they've won just six games, something second year head coach Aaron Sheppard said he is ready to change.
The Tigers lost a few key player's off last year's squad, but they do return safety Travis Addison, a Marshall commit, as well as Anthony Footman. Sheppard said the voids will be filled by guys coming in, and he is confident everything will be good to go by opening kickoff.
"If we want to win, we will have to eliminate the mistakes," he said as the one thing the Tigers need to do to have a positive year. "We make a lot of mistakes. We have in the past, but we won't do it this year. We'll be a lot more disclined, a lot more regemneted. Kids understand the game a little more, so we just have to eliminate the mistakes and not beating ourselves. History is nice, but you know, the present is what we're looking for. It's nice to have the six State titles, but we want to be a part of our own now. That's what we're looking for. That's the big goal."
Preseason play starts the 14th for Jefferson County, as they will travel to Brookwood. They host West Gadsden on the 28th to open up regular season competition.
