TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - It's no secret the Florida State soccer team has a target on their back. The Noles ended last season on a 21-match win streak en route to winning the National title, and on Friday, the journey to defend that title and keep the target from getting hit begins.
The Seminoles kick off the 2015 season on the road when they travel to New Mexico for the Lobo Invitational. The ladies take the pitch against the host team, but they say they don't feel any pressure, as it is a new season.
The Noles were picked to win the ACC earlier this month, and they placed three athletes on the Preseason All-ACC Team, but despite all the accolades and the excitement of a potential repeat, the Noles are just ready to hit the pitch.
"Camp is always tough just because of two a days and it gets pretty challenging," said senior Carson Pickett. "We know what it's for and what we're here for and as the first game approaches, the first game will probably be a little helter skelter just because we're all excited to get on the field and compete with one another."
"We've been here beating up on each other for nearly two weeks now," said head coach Mark Krikorian. "We've been able to experiment with a lot of players in a lot of different positions and take a look at a variety of combinations. I think it's time for us to go out and measure ourselves against somebody else and get better from there."
Florida State's showdown with New Mexico kicks off at 9:30/ET. For more on the Seminoles schedule this season, click here.
