TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Nov. 22) – Visiting Eastern Illinois staged a second quarter scoring surge that carried them to a 66-50 victory over the FAMU Women’s Basketball team at The Al Lawson Center Tuesday night.
 
FAMU (0-3) got off to a slow start, scoring just eight points in the first quarter, but put on a 10-4 scoring jag early in the second stanza to tie the game at 18-18.
 
The visiting Panthers then staged a 17-4 scoring run to forge a 35-22 halftime lead, a lead they would never relinquish, as they would outpace FAMU, 31-28 on the scoreboard in the second half.
 
Shakerrya Morrison led FAMU with 11 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots, while Ny’Asia Davis added 10 points, four blocks and four rebounds.
Jalisha Smith turned in a double-double for EIU with 19 points and 17 rebounds, followed by Erica Brown with 11 points and Allison Van Dyke with 10 points and nine boards.
 
WHAT’S NEXT: FAMU will be in the FAU Thanksgiving Tournament in Boca Raton, Friday and Saturday, opening against Richmond on Friday.
