VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) — The Valdosta State men's basketball team is ranked number five in the country in the latest polls. The Blazers are 6-0 on the year after a big win over West Florida Tuesday night.

If you ask head coach Mike Helfer, they still have a long way to go to get to where they want to be. He said they're definitely taking time to enjoy the recognition though; you have to.

"We don't shy away from it," he said of the Blazers number five ranking. "We'll talk about expectations and recognition and stuff like that. It doesn't change the way you play. If we don't talk about it as coaches in our own locker room, everyone else is talking and tweeting to them, texting them or whatever. We go ahead and talk about it, and I always say this Alison, it's better to wear the bulls eye than aim for it."

The Blazer men host Lee this weekend. Game one of the conference double header is Friday at 7:00. The Blazers ladies are ranked eighth in the country, and they are at Lee this weekend.
