HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Seminoles.com) — The third-ranked Florida State beach volleyball team (32-4) earned its fifth straight CCSA Title on Sunday afternoon with its second win over LSU (25-7) in two days, 3-2.

“I am super proud of our team,” said head coach Brooke Niles. “We knew LSU was going to come out strong and play use really tough. To come out like that and take every punch that was thrown at us and keep fighting on every court until the last point, I am really proud of them. To win the fifth straight conference title is unbelievable. We came here with a goal of winning and competing and we did a really good job of that this weekend.”

In a match that came down to the wire, the Seminoles showed to be the toughest team in Huntsville this weekend, coming away with a 3-2 win over LSU.

The first sets were not that close as three of the five were decided by seven or more points. LSU took three of the first sets on courts one, four and five. The Tigers then took the first point of the match with a 21-14, 21-18 win on court one.

Down 1-0, the Garnet and Gold was not fazed as they took courts two and three and a 2-1 lead. Alaina Chacon and Maddie Anderson tied things up on court two with a 21-10, 24-22 win. Payton Caffrey and Molly McBain gave the Noles their first lead of the afternoon with a three-set win on court three. The Seminole duo took the first set 21-12 before they lost the second set 21-19. Things were tied at three in the third set, then FSU took a 7-5 lead and did not give it up on their way to a 15-10 third set win.

The match came down to third sets on both courts four and five. Sara Putt and Raelyn White were tied at nine while Kate Privett and Jenna Johnson were down 11-10. Both pairs then fell behind 13-12. Putt and White went on to win the final three points of the match on court four taking the final set 15-13 and clinching the match for the Noles.
