Emerson, Ga. – The sweeps just keep coming in for the third-ranked Florida State Beach Volleyball team (26-5) as they beat No. 18 TCU (18-16) 5-0, just dropping one set all match to advance to the CCSA Tournament semifinals tomorrow at 10 am against Georgia State.
“We were ready to play today,” said head coach Brooke Niles. “It was a day full of more tough conditions but we were really focused and ready to play.”
Just like they have all tournament long, Florida State won all five first sets. Senior Brooke Kuhlman and sophomore Avery Poppinga were the first to finish as they dominated the first set 21-9 and followed that up with a 21-16 win in the second set.
Juniors Molly McBain and Payton Caffrey extended the lead to 2-0 with a 21-16, 21-16 win on court four. Graduate Payton Rund and redshirt junior Sara Putt then clinched the match after a dominant 21-9 win in the first set. They finished off court two with a 21-13 second set win.
Sophomores Madison Fitzpatrick and Alaina Chacon extended the lead to 4-0 with a 21-10, 21-15 win on court one. The match was wrapped up on court five with senior Macy Jerger and freshman Kate Privett. They cruised to a 21-7 first set win before falling 21-18 in the second set. They pulled it out in the final set 15-13 to conclude the 5-0 sweep.
Florida State will be in the semifinals tomorrow at 10:00 am against Georgia State. The CCSA Championship match will be played at 12:00 pm against the winner of LSU and FIU.
