TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Florida A&M University is officially moving from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference to the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
The Florida A&M Board of Trustees Special Committee on Athletics passed the unanimous vote on Thursday afternoon .
This decision comes after the Board of Trustees Special Committee on Athletics passed a motion Wednesday to join the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
Moving from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference to the SWAC would reduce travel expenses by nearly $400,000.
FAMU athletic director Kortne Gosha said the Rattlers revenue opportunities are, "extremely limited in the MEAC."
FAMU is required to give the MEAC one year notice before leaving, so their first competition in the SWAC would begin the 2021-2022 school year.
