TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - Friday night was a big night for girls basketball teams in the Big Bend, as several teams looked to win District Championships.
In Class 8A, the Lincoln Lady Trojans recorded their fourth straight District crown, beating rival Leon 55-34 for the District 2 title.
"It's always good to win a District Championship," said head coach Rod Mack. "Our seniors have gone four in a row and actually not lost a District game. So to get another District Championship their last year as a team, for the school, is great. We just don't want to stop here though. We've always been pushing to get a little further each year. Last year was regional finals, this year we're hoping it's Final Four."
The Rickards Lady Raiders look to get to the Final Four as well, and they'll start the postseason at home after beating Godby 61-48 for the District 2 title, their tenth straight District Championship.
"It just shows the hard work and dedication the ladies put into the program, and the support of the school and the AD and our principal and the administration," said head coach Chariya Davis. "It's just years of hard work and we continue to do it and we're just thankful that we can win 10 straight. just to get to that. With all we've been through this year going down with two of our starters, losing them for the season and just bouncing back. This team is still trying to figure out their identity."
In Class 3A, North Florida Christian upset FAMU DRS with the 66-62 win for the District 1 title. Junior Caylan Jones scored 39 points for the Lady Eagles in the win.
Aucilla Christian won the District 1-2A over Tallavana Christian, 50-32 while Lafayette handled Hamilton County 60-37 to win the Class 1A District 5 title.
