TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and The Salvation Army of Tallahassee have teamed up to ensure that no child or senior citizen in need goes without gifts at Christmas.
The Salvation Army's Angel Tree and the Marine Corps Reserve's Toys for Tots programs have served families in multiple area counties for several years.
Registration began Monday, October 9, for the combined program at The Salvation Army of Tallahassee, located at 2410 Allen Road.
The Angel Tree program is open to all residents of Gadsden, Leon and Wakulla counties. Applications are taken for children through age 12 and senior citizens age 65 and older.
Acceptance to the program is based on qualifying need. To apply, come to The Salvation Army of Tallahassee weekdays between October 9 and October 20.
Applications will be taken from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. daily. These dates are the only registration dates for Angel Tree and Toys for Tots.
Each applicant must provide the following documentation:
- Valid Picture ID for ALL adults in the home.
- Birth certificates (or proof of guardianship) for all children in the home.
- Social security cards for everyone in the home.
- Proof of Residency (lease agreement or mortgage statement with applicant’s name and address on it).
- Proof of all income for the home (including cash assistance, food stamps, child support, SSI, etc.).
- Proof of all expenses or bills that are paid (rent, utilities, phone, cable, car, insurance, daycare, etc.).
- Clothing and shoe sizes for each person registered.
Applications will not be taken without all of the required documentation. No children may be brought to the application center.
“The Toys for Tots program will continue to collect toys from all our loyal donors, which will be distributed to all children through the Angel Tree program,” explains Marc Dickieson, Coordinator of Toys for Tots.
The Salvation Army of Tallahassee is in need of your help to locate a donated space for their Angel Tree program operations. The space they previously used is no longer available and the search for new warehouse space has been unfruitful.
For The Salvation Army’s program, they need around 10,000 sq. ft. of open, temperature controlled floor space; restrooms; parking for up to 50; and shopping cart access. The facility also needs to be a single story building with a level floor and large doorways that are suitable for utilizing pallet jacks.
The Salvation Army will need the space for November and December. They will provide a certificate of insurance as necessary and a donation receipt will be provided for donated space.
