Principal: 'We will carry Gary Lyda forever in our hearts'

The 64-year-old died in a car crash early Friday morning

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - — Leon County Schools is mourning for one of their own, former custodian Gary Lyda.

The 64-year-old worked at Killearn Lakes Elementary School.

Principal Brenda Wagner released a statement to families this morning, saying in part:

"We are devastated! The loss of a family member is extremely difficult. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers. I pray for comfort and peace for his wife, Sandra, during this time. We will forever cherish Mr. Lyda’s kind heart and love for ALL of our students. We will carry him forever in our hearts!"

Leon County Sheriff's Office said Lyda died in a car crash just before 7 a.m. on Kinhega drive.

Nobody else was hurt. LCSO is still investigating.
