TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — With the economic uncertainties from the coronavirus, we here at ABC 27 are shining a light on businesses that are doing their part to help out the community while keeping their business open.

Justine Spells opened Railroad Square Craft House a year ago.

"Our experience here at the craft house has been a roller coaster, really," said Spells.

The coronavirus pandemic threw Railroad Square Craft House for a loop during its first year in business.

"We have gone from almost zero to-go orders, to 100 percent to-go orders," Spells said, "and then we shifted again."

When the restaurant re-openedit's doors a month ago, they decided to go beyond the CDC and governor's recommendations, spacing tables up to 10 feet apart, requiring servers to wear masks and, at times, gloves. They also encourage customers to access their menu through their QR code, instead of a paper or plastic menu.

"We don't want to be the place where someone can trace it back to, 'This is where everyone got sick from,'" said Spells. "That's the hardest part as a business owner, is to keep your business afloat and be respectful and mindful of everything going on right now."

That's why neighboring business owners, like Morgan Fox who owns Morgan's Dog Training, support them anytime they can.

"A lot of us who work in the Railroad Square area always retire here in the afternoons to kind of eat, and congregate, and talk about what's been going on," Fox said.

It's that support from the community, along with their drive and dedication that's keeping Railroad Square Craft House going.

They hope their grass will be greener, soon.
