LIVE OAK, Fla. (WTXL) - Thursday, a 61-year-old woman was found dead at the Suwanee Courthouse.
Pamela Smith’s body was found at the courthouse early Thursday morning.
During perimeter checks by Suwannee County Corrections Officers of the courthouse Wednesday night into Thursday morning, Smith showed up on the steps, where she refused assistance.
During multiple checks through the course of the night, officers say she was moving and able to talk. Things changed by 5 a.m., however, when sheriff's deputies discovered Smith had died.
Deputy David Falgout was unable to feel a pulse, adding in the incident report that Smith was cold to the touch and that temperatures that night had fallen to the low 20s.
"We don't know a cause of death," said Chief Buddy Williams, with the Live Oak Police Department. "We don't know if it was due to the weather or other health conditions. In my opinion, it was probably a combination of both."
According to Chief Williams, Smith was not homeless. She did have a house and someone that lived with her.
Foul play is not suspected in the investigation thus far. Smith’s body was sent for an autopsy in Jacksonville to determine the official cause of death.
