TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - A woman with connections to the suspects involved in FSU law professor Daniel Markel's death and family of his ex-wife, was in court on Tuesday facing charges related to the murder.

Katherine Magbanua, who was transferred to Leon County Monday, appeared in court on Tuesday. Her appearance comes after she was denied bail.

The 31-year-old was charged Oct. 1st for the murder-plot that's being called a "hit for hire" job. She was arrested in Davie for first degree murder.

According to investigators, the single mother with no prior criminal history, was receiving payments from the family of Wendi Adelson, Markel's ex-wife.

After a messy divorce and custody dispute, investigators said they have reason to believe that Adelson's family had motive to kill the former professor.

They said Magbanua also had a relationship with Adelson's brother Charlie and is the mother of Sigfredo Garcia's children. Garcia is one of the men accused of driving from Miami to Tallahassee to murder Markel in broad daylight.

The other man accused, Luis Rivera, confessed to his role in a tape released Tuesday, earning him 7 more years to tack onto the 12 years he's already serving for other crimes.

As we find out more details, we will continue to update this story.
