WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Residents in Wakulla County have a new way to keep track of sex offenders in the area.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement reports there were 134 registered sex offenders in Wakulla County as of late March.

The sheriff's office is working with a registry network called OffenderWatch to get that answer.

Anyone can access the database for free. The sheriff's office has a page on its website where you can search for offenders living in a certain area.

OffenderWatch says its program doesn't just give residents peace of mind, it gives law enforcement the heads up.

"The officer and the agency in Wakulla gets an immediate system notification through OffenderWatch that this guy is moving," said Joe Gauthier, the vice president of sales for OffenderWatch. "Here's his record, here's what he looks like, this is what he was convicted of, here's his restrictions, this is his registration requirements and the agent in Wakulla County gets that information before the guy ever leaves the parking lot."

You can sign up to get alerts and real-time updates when an offender registers or moves within a specific distance of a location.

The sheriff's office says you can pick as many addresses as you want and it's all confidential.
