VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL)--A Valdosta State University alumnus has been appointed to President-elect Donald Trump's transition team.

Attorney Ashley Bell says in August he was hired by the Republican National Committee as a senior strategist.

After the election, he got the call from the transition team to help out.

He says it's truly an honor. Bell is in Washington D.C. right now.

"I was asked to help work in the U.S. State Department to make sure the transition of power between outgoing and incoming administration was smooth and that is a privilege and I'm truly humbled to be a part of that," said Bell.

Bell graduated in 2001 with a bachelor's degree in political science from VSU. He was student body president and worked for democratic congressman Sanford Bishop.

He studied law at Louisiana State University then went home to Gainesville to start his own practice.
