UPDATE: Names of those involved in fatal Thomasville crash released

THOMASVILLE, Ga.--Georgia troopers are releasing the names of the those involved in a deadly crash that happened Tuesday morning in Thomas County.

One person died in the crash that happened just after 7:30 at the intersection of Georgia Highway 38 (U.S. Highway 84) and Georgia Highway 35 (U.S. Highway 319).

Troopers say the crash happened after the driver of a 1998 Chevrolet Impala failed to yield to the driver of a 2004 GMC Sierra. The Impala was westbound on Georgia 38 and attempting to turn south on Georgia 35. The Sierra was eastbound on Georgia 35.  The driver of the Sierra tried to steer the car from the impending accident, but was unable to avoid colliding into the other vehicle.

The driver of the Impala was Lonnie Dunbar, 71, from Cordele, Georgia. He was taken to the hospital following the crash. A passenger, 81-year-old Clara Dunbar of Vienna, Georgia, was also taken to the hospital. A second passenger, 71-year-old Lonnie Dunbar, also of Vienna, died as a result of the crash.

The driver of the GMC Sierra, 29-year-old Michael Tonkin, was taken to the hospital for injuries in the crash. A 4-year-old passenger in Tonkin's vehicle wasn't hurt. 

Troopers say that all were were wearing seat belt except Tonkin. It is unknown if Clara Dunbar was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Troopers aren't releasing the current condition of those involved in the accident, but, as of Tuesday, February 12, they were listed as being in critical condition.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
